Permanent Make Up

There was a post a week or so ago about Breast Implants which brings me to this question. What are your thoughts on permanent make up for LDS members? Whether its eyeliner, eye brows, lips, etc. Do you consider this going against the churches beliefs?

I don't think permanent make-up is against Church beliefs! Honestly, non-LDS people who read this blog must think that we're SO uptight and that our leaders dictate every aspect of our lives!

I don't have permanent make-up myself, but I'd be all over getting some eye-liner and mascara put on! I'd love to wake up looking good!

If permanent make-up is done via a tattoo, then I would say that it is against what we have been counseled by our leaders.

I think a PERMANENT arm or back tattoo versus make-up "tattoo" that wears off in a couple of months (yes, it does wear off that fast) is NOT the same thing!

To each her own. If you feel alright about it, do it. If you think it's "bad", don't.

Whatever.

I haven't seen anyone yet with permanent make-up that I thought was worth getting.

But, that wasn't the question. No, I don't think it is the same as a tatoo. It doesn't adhere to the spirit of the 'law' in my opinion.

I didn't know that permanent make-up actually wore off. Is it really "permanent" then?

My question is why would you get it? As I understand it, most people who get it get eyes and lips. Those are the two areas that give you variety. Why would you want them to be exactly the same all the time?

Permanent eye-liner is the best!!! It is so nice to not have to worry about that everyday. I had mine done and LOVED it. Unfortunately, I don't work at that salon anymore so I don't want to pay the 300+ dollars to do it but it is great.

If it is against what the church says then I am proud to say I was a sinner!

Jane Doe,
Permanent makeup does wear off. I believe they call it permanent because you can't just wash it off with soap. It has to wear off. If you want to keep it forever you have to retouch it every six months. I don't agree with Tiger Lily in saying that it only lasts a couple of months. It is about six.

As far as why? I wear the same eyeliner everyday. I don't change that up like I do my shadow so it is great for me. As for lips, I don't really like what the lips look like so personally I wouldn't get them done and I do like to change that up a bit also so I think you are right with that but eyeliner was great for me.

I guess if I wore eyeliner I would understand the benefit. I never really have though, because I've never had the patience to get it right. I'm a simple girl. :)

2 months, 6 months, whatever -- my point was, it's not permanent (as in forever). The only reason I said 2 months was because my sister had permanent mascara put on, and it did wear off after 2 months. She loved it though!

So for those of you who had this done, how does it work? How long does it normally stay on, do you have to get touch ups? if so when? Etc.

HOW DO YOU GET PERMANENT MASCARA?

like, on your eyelasheS? What the..?

My understanding of permanent make up is it is a tatoo. If that is the case, then yes it is against LDS doctrine.

I also can't imagine permanent make up. The styles change from season to season and year to year. Over time, your makeup would just look out dated. That makes no sense to me.

Good question, 3:08. I'll have to ask my sister. They used some kind of "permanent" dye... I know it didn't hurt or anything. It looked great for a month, and then wore off completely by the second.

No Way do I think that it is against our religion I have my eyebrows and eyeliner done and I LOVE IT. And as for the people saying it wears off you must have had the wrong person do it, I have had mine for 6 years and it's still there.

to 4:29, have you had to go back for a "touch up" if so, how often? After six years, does it still look the same or is it pretty faded?

I've had my eyelashes done. You can buy it at any beauty supply store or talk to whoever does your hair. My stylist did mine and it was simple enough to do.

Mine lasted about a month or two. Just an FYI: I did black/brown and it wasn't dark enough to show up like I envisioned. My lashes are already dark (except the ends). If I did it again, I'd buy the black.

3:08 & Tiger Lily,
Eyelash tinting and permanent makeup are two very different things. Permanent makeup is done with a needle (although, I still do not agree it is the same as tattooing) and eyelash tinting is done with some color like the same as for your hair. You could use permanent hair color and it will fade as will tinting and makeup.

4:29,
I have never heard of someone's makeup staying on for 6 years without a touch up. That is amazing! Who do you go to?

On 10 years Younger, the make-up artist said to never have your eyebrows tatooed on because as you age, your skin will shift (sag) and you will be left with eyebrows not on your browbone. Yikes!

The only sin in permanent make up is that it looks horrible!

How come the LDS say no piercings. Then in the now they say okay, but only ears. My understanding is if it is no it is no, why yes but only if...I guess I just don't understand why the "rules" are constantly changing.

The church has to change for it's changing members. I don't think we could get away with ankle and wrist long garments now days. And the piercings is very conservative and attractive.

About the make-up, it wears off, so it's not like a real tattoo. It's like dying your hair or getting your nails done. They are all have to do with vanity, but whatever makes you feel good, and feel it is okay, go for it. Your the only one who has to answer to god for your actions. We shouldn't be quite so worried about what others think.

It fades a little like a real tattoo (those also have to be retouched!) but it doesn't go away. I know people who have had their eyeliner for 10 years and I think it looks a bit better now that it isn't so stark. It is a needle with ink in it aka - tattoo.

I am not saying I think it is wrong just pointing out the facts. I do know people who get retouching but I think it is like everything else, you become desensitized and think more is better and get addicted to the just done look.

Permanent makeup is pretty permanent.
