Still waiting

I'm pregnant and still waiting for that "pregnancy glow." I know that your body is changing and there are increased hormones, but what I'm going through is ridiculous. I've never had any major trouble with zits/acne, and from the day I got a pink line I've had a constant uncontrollable acne. Everything from blackheads to underground zits to the big suckers that look like they'd pop on their own if the wind picked up. I couldn't stand it anymore and finally succumbed purchased CLINQUE face care system for $50. I wash, cleanse, and moisturized my face twice a day for weeks and still no change.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I need help and have noticed that the acne is SO bad I'm starting to scar on my chin and forehead. PLEASE HELP!

Are you picking at and/or popping the zits? Make sure you aren't touching your face AT ALL, other than when you are cleaning it. I assume you are picking at them since you are getting scarring.

Other than that - It will probably go away once you have your baby. Small comfort, I know. You could try going to a dermatologist but I doubt there's much you can take. Good luck and make sure you aren't touching your face!

I know this sounds weird, but I have to pop the big whiteheads. It's too disgusting not too...

I had the opposite "problem" when I was pregnant. I've always had bad acne (and since I started menstruating again, it came back), but while I was pregnant, my skin was so clear. It was wonderful.

I think the "pregnancy glow" is more of a you-look-so-happy-you're-just-glowing thing than it is skin care.

(Captcha for this post: 'hating' as in "I am 'hating' my acne!)

This is 2:22 again...
I totally understand, but it really is better in the long run if you can refrain from doing it. I know how gross it is but try not to unless you absolutely HAVE to. Popping them will only make your acne worse....Sorry!

The Today Show had a zit laser (Zeno Laser - $89) featured on thier show yesterday. Here's the link: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/29367488#29367488.

It's supposed to zap the acne away with heat. I don't know if it's safe for preggo women.

For me, SeaBreeze worked to rid myself of acne. I went on an extended camping trip and that was all I had with me. I came home with a clear face - the first time in years!

So sorry to hear this! It happened to me, too, but not until after I had my first child. It got so bad I had to go to the dermotologist and he had to inject them with something horrid that hurt like he** but they went away soon after. It happened after my next two, as well. So sorry! Go see a Dermo about it, because they might help now! They used something special because I was still nursing. Good luck!

this is going to sound strange, like it wouldn't really make a difference...but try washing your face twice a day with a bar of plain white dove soap for a while. I used to have TERRIBLE acne (note: i wasn't preg) and I tried the Clinique system, every face wash in the stores, and finally a friend told me to try a bar of plain Dove soap. My skin has been clear for the past 5 years!! I swear by it, and I refuse to use anything else.

*In fact, my best friend in high school was using ProActiv while I started using Dove, and my acne cleared up way faster than hers.

Also..if you have a gross HUGE whitehead that you MUST pop, I did a research paper on pimples in high school and it's better for your skin if you pop it with a pin (safety pin, straight pin). (WEIRD, I know) but that won't damage the skin surrounding the infection, and you will be less likely to scar.

I had this exact same problem. Go to acne.org and follow the routine. It has worked wonders for me. I promise you I have tried everything but prescriptions and this worked for me and it's cheaper.

I used Proactiv for many years. I used to get actual cysts on my face, like under the skin. Just big red bumps. The Proactiv made a huge difference. I wouldn't recommend using it for more than a year, as it is pretty strong and can cause long term skin damage. But I didn't have any problems with it and it totally saved my face!

acne.org is what I have heard is the best!

Good Luck! That is so miserable!

My mom's dermatologist suggested she use dove on her face and my pediatrician also suggested I use Dove instead of baby soap for my babies because it is so gentle.

You may be overwashing/stressing your face.

I'd ask your OB for a recommendation to a good dermatologist who has experience with pregnant women.

Acne.org worked for me!

I hate to break it to you, but according to "What to Expect When You're Expecting," the "pregnancy glow" is an actual glow from extra oil excreted from the pores on your face. I guess pregnancy makes your skin more oily and "glowing." Which, of course, makes you break out.

I am pregnant and have had horrible acne. I tried a few different cleansers and moisturizers. The thing that has worked best and has helped a lot is Dove soap and Cetaphil lotion. While I still have the occasional pimple, I don't break out anymore. Good luck!

I got more acne when I was about 3-6 months along. Not fun. It cleared up though.

Take a look at your diet as well. What are you eating?

Make sure you are getting enough fiber and water. You should be drinking half of your body weight in ounces.

Exfoliate a two to three times a week in the shower (the steam helps). And it is ok to pop the white heads, just make sure your hands are clean, you can poke the side with a tiny needle to help it come out, don't use your finger nails to pop it, and most importantly only pop it when it is completly ready, other wise you will just be pushing the sebum mixture back into your skin and spreading it. Also make sure to moisturize, just make sure you are using the right type for your skin (oily, dry, combination, etc)
Also just try to avoid touching your face, all that extra oil from your hands can cause breakouts.
GO GET A FACIAL! You deserve it, just tell them you are preg so they don't use anything harmful or too harsh on your sensitive skin.
p.s. I'm a Master Esthetician, this is exactly what I would do for one of my clients.
