I've been sick for a bit now and finally went into the Doctor today (typically I kick things fast, but not this!). She thinks I have swine flu, so I went to get test. I am now completely freaked out and have to wait another day or two for the results!! I don't want to tell anyone either, because it is such a horrible taboo right now, and don't want to be forever labeled as 'the swine flu person'.
Is it really worse than the normal flu?? What should I do with my kids if I do have it? AHH! I know these are just silly questions, and I don't even know if I have it, but according to my doc, she says I have every symptom.

My three year old had the swine flu. It was basically like a bad cold and then at the end he got hives. So far, with a lot of hand washing, the rest of the family is okay. It's better to get it now, rather than next fall when it's mutated and worse.
My sister-in-law, her hubby and her son all had it last week. It wasn't too bad, and they got over it quick. The other four kids didn't catch it.
My husband's cousin got it and none of her kids did. It was just like regular flu, nothing out out of the ordinary. Lasted about a week or two and that's it. Just relax and think positive thoughts!
5:11, did your son get tested for swine flu at the doctor's office or hospital? Hopefully you kept him away from other people, like no church or playtimes. That's scary. 3 is young.
PANIC!
....or don't. Swine flu isn't a very communicable disease (as evidenced by only a few hundred out of several million people in Mexico contracting it) and it responds very well to treatment.
Remember, thousands of people die every year from the strains of flu we vaccinate against. All things considered, swine flu is pretty mild.
A family friend just died from it. He thought he was just a little sick. he was a healthy 27 year old. they had no clue why he suddenly died but it came back in the autopsy SWINE FLU
Just be careful
11:17 - We kept our three year old isolated away from other children and didn't allow our other children to go play at friend's homes or have friend's over to our house until he was COMPLETELY over it, which took about three weeks.
It wasn't a very happy time, but we tried to make the best of it with board games, movies, pixos and playing cards, etc.
My doctor's office won't even test for it anymore. My daughter got really sick after coming home from camp and we heard that others had been diagnosed with swine flu after camp. So, I called and they told me not to worry, but to treat it like a regular flu. Since it's been declared a pandemic, it's no longer about containment. My son caught it, but the younger ones haven't yet. We're keeping them separated as much as we can. The doctor said their only worrying about people with secondary conditions as they pose the biggest threat.
My kids both got it and it was VERY mild. I even have one child with asthma. I think it is blown way out of proportion. Just make sure you stay in for a whole week so you don't spread it.
